What Does Mid Carolina CU Do With Your Personal Information?
Why? Financial companies choose how they share your personal information. Federal law gives consumers the right to limit some but not all sharing. Federal law also requires us to tell you how we collect, share and protect your personal information. Please read this notice carefully to understand what we do.
What? The types of personal information we collect and share depend on the product or service you have with us. This information can include:

    Apply for any credit union service
    You visit our website, provide us information on any online application or transaction, or information you send to us by email.
    Use your debit or credit card or pay your bills
    Make deposits to or withdrawals from your accounts
We also collect your personal information from others, such as credit bureaus, affiliates or other companies.
Why can’t I limit all sharing? Federal law gives you the right to limit only
    sharing for affiliates’ everyday business purposes—information about your creditworthiness

State laws and individual companies may give you additional rights to limit sharing.
What happens when I limit sharing for an account I hold jointly with someone else? Your choices will apply to everyone on your account.
Definitions
Affilliates Companies related by common ownership or control. They can be financial and nonfinancial companies. Mid Carolina CU has no affiliates.
Nonaffiliates Companies not related by common ownership or control. They can be financial and nonfinancial companies. Nonaffiliated companies we share with can include insurance companies, direct marketing companies, non-profit organizations and credit card networks.
Joint marketing A formal agreement between nonaffiliated financial companies that together market financial products or services to you. Our joint marketing partners include insurance companies, investment companies and direct marketing companies.

Purpose

Mid Carolina Credit Union believes trust is the foundation of our relationship with our members. The Credit Union will not collect personal information about you, such as your name, telephone number, or email address, unless you voluntarily submit this information to us. Mid Carolina Credit Union treats all member-provided personal identifying information as confidential and does not sell or disclose such information to third parties. We pledge to protect your privacy by following the practices described below.


Member Disclosure

The Credit Union will provide, as required by law, a disclosure that summarizes our efforts to protect your personal information and how we use your personal information while conducting business with you directly or through approved third-party vendors. The disclosure will be placed on our website or made available on request. The information will be delivered in person or to the telephone numbers, mailing and/or e-mail addresses you provided in your Membership Application, Signature Card, or any other application or communication subsequently received.

This Disclosure Will Cover:

The Types of Information We Collect: We only collect information about our members for lawful business purposes or as otherwise required by applicable law. We collect information about our members from the following sources: (a) Applications for services, verifications, current and past employers, other forms, and any communications you send to us, including electronic messages from which we collect your name, addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, financial data, birth date, gender and other information; (b) Transactions involving your accounts or services with us from which we collect information such as your name, account number, balance, payment history, parties to your transactions and credit card usage; (c) Consumer Credit Reports from which we collect information regarding your creditworthiness, credit history and account activity; and (d) Certain information collected when you visit our website.

Information We Disclose. To benefit our members and former members, we only share the information described in Section above, within the Credit Union, which includes all employees, directors, agents, volunteers, committee members and field agents, and with certain trusted third parties described in this paragraph, who are obligated to maintain the confidentiality and security of your private information. We use the services of various third parties to assist us in offering financial services to our members. For example, we use the services of third parties for processing or facilitating transactions using credit cards, checks (share drafts), debit cards, and other access devices, including home banking; for assistance in making loans, loan underwriting; processing loan applications, appraising collateral, and for processing our outgoing mail. We also work with companies that may provide financial services such as financial planning, financial counseling, investment services, extended automotive service contracts, personal, property, or other insurance, and credit counseling. Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act: We may report information about your account(s) to third parties such as credit reporting agencies/bureaus. Late payments, missed payments, insufficient funds transactional or other defaults on your loan and share/share draft account (s) may be reflected in your credit report. We may also share information when permitted by applicable law. Due to the restricted manner in which we share information with non-affiliated third parties, we are not obligated to offer you the option to opt out of their disclosures.

Sharing Information with Credit Union Affiliates. We share information about individual members with TruStage, a diversified financial services company that serves Credit Unions and their Members. Trustage uses this information to offer insurance and/or mortgage lending services.

We may also share information when permitted by applicable law.

Security. We are dedicated to taking all reasonable measures to safeguard the identifying information you share with us.. We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to you. We also maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to guard your nonpublic personal Information.

How to Protect Your Information. Safeguard your account numbers, card numbers, PINs (personal identification numbers), and passwords. Never store your PIN with your debit or credit card, as this increases your vulnerability if your card is lost or stolen. Use caution when revealing account numbers, social security numbers, etc., to others. If a caller tells you he/she is calling you on behalf of the Credit Union and asks for your account number, you should be wary. Legitimate Credit Union staff would already have access to that information. The Credit Union must have current information about how to reach you. If we detect potentially fraudulent use of your account, we will attempt to contact you immediately. If your address or phone number changes, please let us know.

Notices and "Joint Relationships." Unless explicitly required by applicable law, we will send all notices to the individual (member) listed first on any application, agreement, or other relevant document with us. The notice will be mailed to the address specified for that individual on the application, agreement, or other document. If this individual (member) has consented to receive notices and disclosures electronically, we will send all such communications to the email or internet address provided. All joint owners, borrowers, and guarantors agree to the receipt and sufficiency of any notice or notification sent according to this paragraph.

Website. To use our website or access a site we sponsor, “cookies” are required. These small pieces of information are stored on your web browser to help the site remember you during future visits. We do not store confidential or sensitive information using cookies. By remembering user preferences and settings, the credit union can provide relevant recommendations to members while browsing the website. For certain applications, like online transactions, cookies are essential for safeguarding the privacy of a member's activities. For instance, they can terminate a session if the member forgets to log out. We gather email addresses from members who request electronic services and from website users who voluntarily provide their addresses.

Our website links to third-party websites. We provide these links as a service. We are not affiliated with or an agent of any third-party websites linked to our website, and when you link to a third-party website, you leave our website. We are not accountable for the privacy practices of any external websites you visit, particularly if they collect personal identifying information.

Protecting Children. The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) restricts the collection, use, or disclosure of Personal Information from and about children under 13 on the internet. In compliance with COPPA, Mid Carolina Credit Union is committed to protecting the online privacy of the children who visit our website. We do not knowingly solicit or collect data from children, and we do not knowingly market to children online. We recognize that protecting children's identities and online privacy is important and that responsibility rests with us and Parents. 

Our website and online services are not directed to children under 13, nor is information knowingly collected from children under 13.  Should Mid Carolina Credit Union receive information (name, address, email, account number, telephone, social security number) from a child known to be under 13, the information will only be used to respond directly to the child, seek parental consent, or provide parental notice. Mid Carolina Credit Union is not accountable for non-affiliated third parties’ data collection or usage practices.

Online Chat Communications. At any time and in our sole discretion, Mid Carolina Credit Union may make an interactive online chat (“Chat”) service available to the public. Mid Carolina Credit Union makes no warranty that the Chat service will be available at any time or free of fault or error. By accepting the terms and conditions of our website, you consent that personally identifiable information from you may be collected, monitored, and records maintained to respond to your communication or to meet your service request per our Privacy Policy. Chat content may be shared with third parties, and use of the Chat service constitutes acceptance of these terms. You agree that the Credit Union shall have no liability to you whatsoever for any loss, claim, or damages arising or in any way related to the Credit Union’s response(s) to any online Chat communication which the Credit Union, in good faith, believes you have submitted to the Credit Union.

You will not use the Chat service to send any abusive, defamatory, dishonest, or obscene message, and doing so may result in termination of the Chat service session. Individuals under 13 years are prohibited from using the Chat service, and by invitation or no invitation, must not agree to use the Chat service.

E-mail Communications. You recognize and accept that the Internet is inherently insecure. Therefore, you agree that Mid Carolina Credit Union shall have no liability to you whatsoever for any loss, claim, or damages arising or in any way related to Credit Union’s response(s) to any e-mail or other electronic communication which Credit Union in good faith believes you have submitted to Credit Union. Mid Carolina Credit Union has no duty to investigate the validity of or to verify any e-mail or other electronic communication. Credit Union may respond to an e-mail communication provided by you to either the address provided with the communication or any other e-mail address(es) provided to Credit Union by you. Any e-mail returned to Credit Union as undelivered may be resent to you at any other e-mail address that Credit Union has in your file. Although Credit Union has no obligation to do so, Credit Union reserves the right to require authentication of e-mails or electronic communications. The decision to require authentication is the sole discretion of the Credit Union. Mid Carolina Credit Union will have no obligation, liability, or responsibility to you or any other person or company if the Credit Union does not act upon or follow any instruction to the Credit Union, if a communication cannot be authenticated to the Credit Union’s satisfaction.

Text SMS Messaging Terms and Conditions. The Credit Union and its service providers may use an auto dialer to deliver text messages to you. The Credit Union's text messages are intended to provide informational, transactional, or marketing information regarding our products and services. 

You consent to receive text messages from our automated dialing system. If you provided consent in writing or sent a return text “Y” or Yes,” the text messages may contain special offers or promote Credit Union products. You own the telephone number used to opt in. Your consent to receive these automated text messages is not a condition to receiving any Credit Union product or service.

You agree that the Credit Union may use an electronic record to document your consent. To request a free paper or email copy of the opt-in, or to update our records with your contact information, please call (803) 425-8521. To view and retain an electronic copy of these Terms and Conditions and/or confirmation of your opt-in, you will need (i) a device (such as a computer or mobile phone) with internet access, and (ii) either a printer or storage space on such device. For an email copy, you will need an email account that you can access from your mobile device, along with software that can display emails. These Terms and Conditions will apply if you withdraw your consent or opt out of the Credit Union text message service.

The Credit Union Text (SMS) Messaging is provided for your convenience and does not replace your monthly account statement(s), which are the official record of your accounts. This service may not be encrypted, and at some point, may include personal or confidential information about you, such as your account activity or status. You agree to protect the communications device that receives information through this service and not allow unauthorized persons to access the information we provide you through this service. 

Message Frequency. The number of text messages you receive will vary depending on which Credit Union Text Messaging programs you use and the frequency of the messages sent by those programs. If you have opted in to receive marketing messages, we will not send you more than fifteen (15) text messages containing special offers or promoting Credit Union products per month. 

Fees. We do not charge or impose a fee for your access to or use of text (SMS) messaging. However, you are responsible for all charges, including, but not limited to, fees otherwise applicable to your account(s) and fees associated with text messaging imposed by your communications service provider. Standard message and data charges may apply to each text sent or received (Contact your mobile communication service provider for pricing plans). 

How to Opt In. To opt in to a Credit Union Text Messaging program(s), please follow the instructions provided by the specific program from which you wish to receive messages. Reply as indicated in an initial text message.

How to Opt Out. You may revoke your consent to receive automated text messages at any time by (1) calling (803) 432-8521, (2) writing to us at Mid Carolina Credit Union, ATTN: eServices, P.O. Box 549, Lugoff, SC 29078, or (3) sending a return text with “STOP”. If you have subscribed to multiple text messaging programs, your opt-out request may prompt a confirmation text or a request for clarification on which program it applies to. To complete your opt-out, please provide the requested clarification. Revoking your consent to receive automated marketing text messages from the Credit Union does not revoke any consent to receive automated text messages related to a specific transaction (for example, a loan application). For all further help or information, send a return text with “HELP.” 

To stop receiving text messages from all Credit Union Text Messaging programs, text “STOPALL” to any short code number from which text messages are sent. You acknowledge that you will receive one (1) final message from the Credit Union confirming you have opted out of all Credit Union Text Messaging programs. Following the confirmation message, you will no longer receive additional text messages associated with any program. You will not be opted out of Online Banking automated alerts.

Mid Carolina Credit Union employees may contact you via SMS text message to communicate information about

Your Mobile Telephone Number. You agree to provide a valid phone number for this service to obtain information about your applicable account. We determine in our sole discretion what information we make available through this service. You represent that you are the owner of record for the mobile telephone number(s) you designated as your cell phone on your Credit Union membership. You are responsible for notifying us immediately if you change your mobile telephone number. You may notify us of a number change by contacting the Call Center at (803) 432-8521 or eServices at eservices@midcarolinacu.com

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold us harmless from and against all claims, losses, liability, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your provision of a phone number that is not your own or your violation of applicable federal, state, or local law, regulation, or ordinance. Your obligation under this paragraph shall survive termination of the Agreement.

Access or Delivery to the Mobile Network is Not Guaranteed. It is your responsibility to determine if your mobile carrier supports Text Messaging and if your mobile device can receive text messages. Your receipt of our text messages is subject to the terms and conditions of your agreement(s) with your mobile carrier. Delivery and receipt of account information through the Credit Union’s Text (SMS) Messaging may be delayed or impacted by your phone carrier or other parties. We will not be liable for losses or damages caused in whole or in part by your actions or omissions that result in any disclosure of account information to third parties. Also, nothing about the Credit Union’s Text (SMS) Messaging creates any new or different liability for us beyond what is already applicable under your existing account agreements. Safe driving is your responsibility, and you should not use this text messaging service while driving. 

Supported Carriers. Supported carriers may change from time to time. Current supported carriers include AT&T, Sprint, Boost, Virgin, T-Mobile, MetroPCS, Verizon Wireless, Cellcom USA, Spectrum Wireless, U.S. Cellular, and Google Voice. This list is not exhaustive, is not updated regularly, and may change without notice. The Credit Union makes no warranty regarding the availability or reliability of text message services, and we shall have no liability related to any delay or failure in delivery or receipt of text messages. The Credit Union and supported carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. 

Support/Help. To request more information, text “HELP” to the appropriate short code or Credit Union Telephone Number provided. You may also receive help by contacting the Call Center at (803) 432-8521.

Eligibility. To receive Credit Union text messages, you must be a resident of the United States and 18 years of age or older. We reserve the right to require you to prove that you are at least 18. We do not intend to or knowingly collect information from individuals under thirteen (13) years of age. We request that such individuals not provide personal information through our digital interfaces, including Text (SMS) Messaging.  

Changes to Terms and Conditions. The Credit Union may revise, modify, or amend these Text (SMS) Messaging Terms and Conditions at any time, without notice, except as required by law. Any revision, modification, or amendment shall be effective when posted to our website https://www.midcarolinacu.com. You agree to review these Text Messaging Terms and Conditions periodically to ensure you are aware of any changes. Your continued use of a Credit Union text messaging service after the Terms and Conditions have changed shall constitute your acceptance of those changes. 

Termination of Text Messaging. We may suspend or terminate your receipt of Credit Union text messages if we believe you breach these Text Messaging Terms and Conditions or your Membership Agreement. Your receipt of Credit Union text messages is also subject to termination should your mobile telephone service terminate or lapse. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue all or any part of our text messages, with or without notice. We may cancel, restrict the use of, or interrupt your free subscription to all Credit Union text messaging services or terminate any Credit Union text messaging services at any time, without notice to you. 

Security. Text messages to the Credit Union numbers are not encrypted. Please do not text sensitive or non-public personal information. No representative of the Credit Union will ever ask you to do this. If you receive a text message purported to be from the Credit Union that requests you send a text with sensitive or non-public personal information, please do not respond to it. Instead, you must notify us immediately by telephone at (803) 432-8521

Disputes. You agree that any action, dispute, claim, or controversy of any nature between you and the Credit Union arising from or related to a Credit Union text message service will be subject to and resolved per the terms of your Credit Union’s Membership, Account and Account Services Agreement and Disclosure or Business Services Membership Account and Account Services Agreement and Disclosure.
